Digital Subtraction Angiography (DSA)

Digital Subtraction Angiography (DSA)

Cerebral digital angiography/venography is a selective 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional (3D) angiography of all eligible cervical and cranial arteries and veins.

It is done within the setting of a biplane cathlab.

By making peripheral arterial and venous access, contrast dye is introduced. While the dye is taking its route, the endovascular neurointerventional surgeon observes its path to localize any visible cerebrovascular diseases.

DSA is different from other imagings in that, it subtracts the bones and brain from the display to give an accurate clear image of the vessels to be studied.

The diagnostic procedure is done to get a 3-dimensional image to aid in diagnosis and make treatment plan of the following illnesses.

Diagnostic cerebral angiography to evaluate for conditions such as:

  • Stenosis, in-stent restenosis, occlusion
  • Reversible vasoconstriction syndrome
  • Cerebral vasculitis
  • Cerebral vasospasm
  • Cerebral aneurysm
  • Cerebral arteriovenous malformations/fistula
  • Cerebral venous sinus thrombosis, stenosis, diverticulum,
  • Intracranial tumor
  • Epistaxis, oro-pharyngeal bleeding.
  • Facial/head and neck AVM
